INSTITUTE OF ARCHAEOLOGY AT THE 19TH ROMAN GAMES IN PTUJ (SLOVENIA)
The Institute of Archaeology participated in the 19th Roman Games, held from 21 to 23 August in Ptuj, Slovenia, where Roman history, living history, and contemporary approaches to cultural heritage interpretation came together through a diverse programme of activities.
As part of the event, the Institute presented the international GreenHeritage project, supported by the Creative Europe programme and coordinated by the Institute of Archaeology. The project explores new ways of connecting cultural heritage, sustainability, education, and modern technologies, with a particular focus on the active involvement of young people and local communities.
One of the highlights for visitors was Viminacium Minecraft – a digital environment inspired by the archaeological site of Viminacium. By bringing together archaeology, history, and the world of one of the most popular video games, Viminacium is given a new digital life, while its rich heritage becomes accessible to new generations in a creative, interactive, and engaging way.
The presentation in Ptuj provided an opportunity to share experiences developed through the GreenHeritage project with participants and visitors of the Roman Games, while demonstrating how digital technologies can open new paths for exploring, learning about, and experiencing archaeological heritage.
We would like to thank our hosts for their wonderful hospitality, as well as all the participants and visitors who showed interest in the project, Viminacium, and our digital adventures into the past. We look forward to new encounters, collaborations, and opportunities to discover cultural heritage together through new technologies!
